Keigo Yamamoto (1936–2025) was a Japanese media artist and contemporary artist born in Fukui Prefecture. Beginning in the 1950s with painting, he expanded his practice to sculpture, photography, and performance, and from 1968 engaged in video art. In 1971, he pioneered participatory network art using telecommunications technology, among the earliest such practices worldwide. He subsequently developed works including networked renga and collaborative drawing, network sound installations, and ubiquitous art. Yamamoto participated in numerous international exhibitions, including the São Paulo Biennial (1975), documenta 6 (1977), and the Venice Biennale (1984). From 1985, he was involved in the founding of the Fukui International Video Biennale. He also contributed to arts education at institutions such as Nagoya Zokei Junior College of Art and Design, Musashino Art University, and Kyoto Seika University, and received the Award for Distinguished Service at the Japan Media Arts Festival in 2015.
