Kiyoshi Sato

Born in Tokyo in 1998. Graduated in 2024 from the Department of Oil Painting, Tokyo University of the Arts. She creates works inspired by their name and the identity associated with it. Interested in their own name from childhood—which is her real name and reportedly the second most common name in Japan—they explores its “mob character” quality: though a proper name, it carries a high degree of anonymity in Japan. To express the idea of existing en masse like a crowd, they frequently employs copying and repetition in their work. Working across painting, performance, and installation, they investigates universal aspects of humanity. Major exhibitions include Noyama no Nageki (Room_412, 2022). Thier go-to karaoke song is Kimi no Naka no Eien by Takehide Inoue.
