Other

Director Jun-nosuke Tada, musician Yukiko Nishii, and the activity group “OUTBACK Project,” which shares the voices and creative expressions of people living with mental illness, have been visiting psychiatric hospitals in the prefecture and holding a series of workshops in dialogue with inpatients.

Now in its second year, the project takes “Meals” as its theme.
Thoughts and episodes about food that emerged through these workshop exchanges have been reworked into a theatrical and musical performance presented in the style of a dinner show.

Meals that linger in one’s heart during long hospital stays; eating disorders and the act of “eating”; family tables shared together—
Through diverse memories of food, we invite you to join a banquet where we savor the many ways of living.

● What is the “Co-Creation for Inclusive Society Project”?
In Kanagawa Prefecture, to help realize the vision of “Kanagawa, a society where we live together,” initiatives in the field of arts and culture are also guided by the goal of “Living Together, Creating Together.”

Through the Co-Creation for Inclusive Society Project, people of all ages and abilities—from children to adults—can participate in and enjoy the performing arts, regardless of age, disability, or other differences.

Profiles

OUTBACK Project
The OUTBACK Project was founded in 2021 by members involved in supporting people with mental illness in Yokohama. Through their daily activities, they became acutely aware of the widespread misconceptions and prejudices toward people with mental illness and recognized the urgent need to share the voices of those directly affected.

At the core of their activities is the OUTBACK Actors School, where people experiencing mental health challenges transform their own experiences into original theatrical works and communicate them through their own words, voices, and bodies. The project also engages in lectures, publications, and YouTube video distribution, as well as various outreach initiatives aimed at raising awareness and empowering individuals with lived experience.

Jun-nosuke Tada

Director. Artistic Director of Tokyo Deathlock. Tada creates theatrical works using a wide range of source materials—from classical texts and contemporary plays to online writings—developing productions that blur the boundaries between stage and audience, including participatory and touring formats.

He has served as artistic director of public theaters and as program director of international performing arts festivals. With international exchange, education, and community engagement as key pillars of his work, he has led collaborative international projects and created programs across Japan with children, students, families, seniors, foreign residents, and people with disabilities.

In 2013, he became the first foreign recipient of the Best Director Award at the 50th Dong-A Theatre Awards in Korea for Kalmegi. He is a part-time lecturer at Shikoku Gakuin University and Joshibi University of Art and Design. Recent works include The Dancing Girl of Izu (SPAC) and Three Sisters in Exile (KAAT + Tokyo Deathlock + The 12th Language Theatre Studio).

Yukiko Nishii
Composer. In addition to composing music for stage and screen, Nishii is fascinated by the moment when people begin to make and play sounds. She conducts sessions and collaborative composition projects in schools, hospitals, cultural institutions, welfare facilities, and public spaces.

Her practice explores both engaging with and gently shifting habitual bodily movements and patterns of thought held by participants. Rather than focusing on polished outcomes, her distinctive method draws out individual choices, allowing the dynamics and exchanges within a group to gradually emerge as music.

Selected projects include We Are Aligned. (Festival/Tokyo 20, with Momonga Complex, 2020), Ryugu Rinsestu-den – GYOTS (Setouchi Triennale 2022, Kinoshita Kabuki, directed by Momoko Shiraga), PARCO PRODUCE 2022 A Ghost Is Here (directed by Kae Inaba), and Rinse Repeat (directed by Kae Inaba, 2025).
